Pictured is Scott Cooper, Dave Newsham, Simon Cooper, Gary Cooper from Loaghtan Loaded MTB Club with Breda Cain and Sue Feeney for Autism in Mann. The group presented Breda and Sue with the absolutely staggering amount of £3,291 for Autism in Mann. This donation was raised as a result of the great 24 hour cycling event held in June. They had also presented Rebecca House, Children's Hospice, with the same amount – a total of £6,582.

Simon explained that he had personal experiences of dealing with Autism In Mann and wanted to do something worthwhile for them. The Microgaming Longest Day, Longest Ride challenge is organised by the Loaghtan Loaded MTB and was an incredible event to be part of and it was with great pleasure that they handed over this donation.

Next years Longest Day, Longest Ride will be held on 15 and 16 June 2013 and will raise funds for the Manx Wildlife Trust and Craig’s Hearstrong Foundation.

We would like to pay a huge thank you to everyone that has sent in their sponsorship money so far. The other week, when we actually had some sun we made a presentation of a cheque for £3,2910.00 to Mary Doyle, representative of Rebecca House and Hospice, they were extremely grateful for all that everyone has done for them.

Pictured is Barry Martin and Gary Cooper from the Loaghtan Loaded MTB Club with Mary Doyle, PR and Marketing Manager for Hospice. The two gentleman presented Mary with the absolutely staggering amount of £3,291 for the children’s hospice, Rebecca House. This donation was raised as a result of the great 24 hour cycling event held in June. They had also presented Autism in Mann with the same amount – a total of £6,582.

Gary explained that he had personal experiences of dealing with both charities and wanted to do something worthwhile for them. The Microgaming Longest Day, Longest Ride challenge is organised by the Loaghtan Loaded and was an incredible event to be part of and it was with great pleasure that Gary and Barry handed over this donation.

Next years Longest Day, Longest Ride will be held on 15 and 16 June 2013 and will raise funds for the Manx Wildlife Trust and Craig’s Hearstrong Foundation.

23/08/2012

We would like to thank all those people who have kindly submitted their sponsorship money from the event; despite there still being over 50 people that have not submitted anything we have all managed to raise a massive £6,582.00 for the chosen charities. This means that Autism in Mann and Rebecca House will each recieve £3,291.00. Well done to everyone and on behalf of the charities...THANK YOU!

12/08/2012

Despite reminders we still have 53 riders who have yet to submit their sponsorship money. As this is a charity event and one of the three main princliples is to raise money for charity we feel it only fair that everyone abides by the mandatory requirement to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship equal to that of your entry fee. We would therefore kindly ask that anyone who has not submitted their sponsor money to do so by Friday 17th August.

17/07/2012

With only a few days left we still have around 83 people that have not yet submitted their sponsorship money and we would ask that this be submitted by no later than Friday 27th July so that we can make the cheque presentations to the charities in the first week of August. Once again we would like to thank everyone for their support with the event and in return their commitment to help raise money for two worthy charities, Autism in Mann and Rebecca House. If you need further details on how to submit your sponsorship money please contact Gadge on 453016 or E-mail: gadge@ldlr.im

26/06/2012

We have aleady received 7 entries for LDLR 2013. Wht not enter early and then you don't have to worry about issing out on another great event. We will even let you pay the entry fee* by installments!
*Current entry fee remains at £40 per rider regardless of solo or team.

23/06/2012

In order that we may present the charities with their cheques we would ask that all sponsor money be submitted by no later than the 27th July. An E-mail will be sent to all entrants with details on how to pay their sponsor money. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of this years entrants, supporters and spectators for their support with the event. Despite the horrific weather conditions I think we can safely say we had another successful event and the feedback has been very positive and has provided us with a few points to pick up on for next year so again thank you to everyone who completed the survey.

17/06/2012

A full breakdown of the results are available HERE. If you want a lap by lap analysis these are available HERE. A massive thank you to Graham and Sue for their sterling work with the timing.

17/06/2012

Entries are now open for the Longest Day, Longest Ride 2013! The dates are provisionally booked as 15th & 16th JUne 2013 and the venue will once again be Conrhenny Plantation. Work will soon begin on preparing the course for next year which we hope will address some of the feedback received this year re. length and technicality of the course. The organisers would like to remind everyone that the event is designed to cater for all abilities from those hardcore racing snakes to the new recreational riders. Where else in an event can all abilities ride together side by side?

14/06/2012

Entries have now CLOSED. No further entries will be accepted. Below is the final list of riders. We would at this point like to wish you all a very enjoyable event, come rain or shine and remember just why we are doing this...to raise lots of money for charity!

In order to help people distribute their sponsorship efforts further afield we have set up a PayPal Donate Button on our Charity page so you can share this page with your family and friends. Unfortunately neither charity are registered with JustGiving or VirginMoneyGiving. If you still prefer to use the old fashioned paper sponsorship form you can download this HERE. All monies donated through this PayPal Donate button will be passed directly on to the charities.

MICROGAMING SPONSORS THE ISLAND'S ONLY 24 HOUR MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE, THE LONGEST DAY, LONGEST RIDE
Microgaming (www.microgaming.com), the world's largest provider of online gaming software, is pleased to announce that they will once again be sponsoring the Longest Day, Longest Ride event on Saturday 16th to Sunday 17th June 2012.

The Microgaming sponsored event will take place at Conrhenny Plantation, and is a 24 hour endurance mountain bike challenge. Individuals and teams of all abilities are welcome to enter. The aim of the event is to ride for as long as possible, clocking up the most number of laps on the course in a 24 hour period staring at 12 noon on Saturday 16th June and finishing at 12 noon Sunday 17th June.

Roger Raatgever, CEO Microgaming commented "We are once again very excited to be involved in the Longest Day, Longest Ride event. We are huge sport fanatics at Microgaming and whenever we hear the word challenge, it certainly gets our attention! We can't wait to take part in the Island's only 24 hour mountain bike challenge, especially being associated with a well respected club such as Loaghtan Loaded, who will again be raising money for two Isle of Man charities, Rebecca House and Autism in Mann."

Gary Cooper, Loaghtan Loaded commented: "This is the third year we have organised the Longest Day, Longest Ride event and are so pleased to once again have the backing of an organisation like Microgaming. The event is a real challenge and could appeal to die hard mountain bikers that want a real tough challenge, riders that are in training for other similar endurance events, or teams that would like to take part as a group and do something different for charity and have fun.

As the name suggests, it will take place over the weekend closest to the longest day of the year, providing optimum daylight hours, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to what will no doubt be one of the most fun challenges on the Isle of Man this year."

Entry fees are £40 for individuals, £80 for a team of two, £120 for a team of three, £160 for a team of four, £200 for a team of five, and £240 for a team of six. Riders and teams must raise a combined minimum amount of sponsorship equivalent to the entry fee.

01/01/2012
Happy New Year everyone! Here's to a year filled with fun, friendships (old & new), fine weather and plenty of social biking. Here's also to another successful event!

25/12/2011

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

05/12/2011

We have negotiated package prices with the Isle of Man Steam Packet for any visiting riders wishing to come ride the event. Click HERE to download the PDF with all the prices, details and how to book your place. PRICES FROM £68/pp

24/11/2011
Timing / Lap Counting for 2012's event will again be provided by Graham Hughes of Manx Timing Solutions (MTS) and will follow a similar format to this years event with one slight change. All riders that have ridden in a MTS timed event will be required to use their own IPICO Tags. All other riders will either be able to purchase a tag for the event which can be kept and used for any other MTS timed events or will be required to pay a small deposit for the loan of a tag for the event. Unfortunately this is necessary as we had several tags not returned to us after the event which the organisers had to pay for.

16/11/2011
Entries are now open. Please go to the Registration page and complete the rider registration form and payment, being sure to complete all the requested details for each individual rider. In light of the feedback received from this years event we have taken a major step of moving the event venue to Conrhenny Plantation which will enable us to provide better facilities such as a much improved event centre, on site parking and camping*.
* There will be an additional charge of £5 per person/vehicle payable at sign on.

14/11/2011

Plans are progressing well for 2012 and the organisers have chosen the charity for the 2012 event and are pleased to announce (subject to their acceptance of the events support) that we will be raising money for Rebecca House and Autism in Mann. We are also pleased to announce the new venue for the 2012 event will be Conrhenny Plantation. Working closely with representatives from D.E.F.A. plans are in place to undertake works within the plantation to bring you a new, exciting, challenging yet achievable course.

01/11/2011

Registration is now open. Please go to the Registration page to register your interest and entry type by completing your registration form. Due to the increased running costs of the event we will have to increase the entry fee slightly. Despite this small increase we feel it will still offer 'value for money' over similar endurance events. Once we have finalised the entry fee everyone that has expressed and registered their interest and entry type will be notified by E-mail of the actual entry fee. We appreciate this is not the norm but due to factors outside our control we need to gauge interest in the event before finalising the entry fee.

18/07/2011
We would like to pay a huge thank you to everyone that has sent in their sponsorship money so far. Last Tuesday we made a presentation of a cheque for £5,352.70 to the local representatives of Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and they were extremely grateful for all that everyone has done for them. The amount raised so far is a massive £5,492.24! There are still around 20 people that haven't sent in their money yet and if they do we could easily reach £6,000.00; so come on guys and gals, get your money in to us so we can hand them another cheque! If you need to know how/where to send your money, please E-mail Gary for more details.

07/07/2011

A large selection of photographs from the 2011 event are now available to view on the Gallery Page. Thanks to the following people for their permission to use their photographs;
Fran Caley, Will Nulty, Tim Shearman, Graeme Watson and Ian Strodder.

28/06/2011

Below are just some of the comments received over the last few days about the event and we would like to thank everyone that has taken the time to give us feedback. We have produced an online survey which we would ask everyone to take the 5 or so minutes to complete. The survey can be found HERE;
From PC:
Just thought I would contact you to thank you and everyone for organising such a brilliant event at the weekend...as a first timer at any sort of bike event, I loved every minute of it...well apart from the cramp and the punctures!! roll on next year!!!
From DR:
Hi Gary once again thank you so very much for one of the most enjoyable events I have done in years, well done!
From LA:
We had a fantastic weekend. The event was so well organised and it has definitely made me want to get back into mountain biking...maybe I should have gotten back into it before doing the event...!
From PP:
Just a quick note to say thanks for the work that went into organising the event at the weekend. It was proper hard, but we all really enjoyed it and will be entering again next year with some revised tactics!
From SP:
After a week of sleeping through alarms and eating even the old dusty stuff from the back of the cupboard, I just wanted to say thanks to you and all the Loaghtan Loaded race committee for putting on a really good event. I brought a box full of food and drink with me and took it all home again - the catering was spot-on. The course was great and the nutters who rode the solo event have my utmost admiration. It is a real boost to have an event like this here on the Island and I'm sure it will go from strength to strength.
From PJ:
Just wanted to say a big well done and thanks to all the Loaghtan boys for their hard work. We really enjoyed the event - even if it didn't feel like it at 4am!
From AB:
Marking out the start/finish area as people wander about, or put a chicane in to slow riders down.
Start earlier, 9am ish, so as to reduce the amount of time riders spend riding the "next day". From my shift experience and also doing the parish walk many times, the earlier start works better, but that's just my opinion!
Fantastic event though, great atmosphere and well run and fab back up with food tent etc. Keep it up. Am tempted to do the whole 24 by myself next year!

23/06/2011
As you may or may not have known, a certain TT rider was due to ride the event but unfortunately had other committments in the UK so was unable to ride. Anyway, what we do have up for grabs are a signed Loaghtan Loaded T-Shirt and signed Longest Day, Longest Ride poster. If you would like to be in with a chance to win these items simply E-mail Gary with you maximum bid. We will run this until the end of the month when the highest bidder will be announced here and will win both items. All proceeds will be given to The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

20/06/2011

Well that's it, after a little under a year of planning and preparation we say goodbye to Longest Day, Longest Ride 2011 and HELLO to Longest Day, Longest Ride 2012! Provisional dates for your diary are 16th & 17th June 2012 provided there are no changes to the 2012 Parish Walk dates. Entries will open shortly.

Also a gentle reminder that we would like your sponsorship money in as soon as possible please so we can total it all up and make the cheque presentation to the charity. Through the donations for the refreshments in the marquee and a VERY GENEROUS donation from Kenny's dad we raised just over £256! Thank you everyone who put their hands in their pockets and made a donation.

For further details on how to pay your sponsorship money please E-mail Gary.

19/06/2011

Once again thanks to Ed Oldham of Manx Radio for the kind permission to use the post event interview on the website. If you missed it being aired please click HERE to listen again.

15/06/2011

Today Gary went up to Manx Radio to record an interview for the sports section which will be aired over the weekend of the event. Click HERE to listen to the interview and Gary would like to apologise now for the fact he forgot to thank the most important people...his family and friends! His mind wasn't in the best place and this very important 'Thank You' slipped his mind...sorry!! A BIG Thank you to Ed Oldham at Manx Radio for the permission to use the interview on the site.

14/06/2011

With just a few days left before the big day, Gary takes time out to check up with a few of the riders to get their thoughts and strategies on the event and here is what they had to say and thank you both for sharing with us;

Julian Corlett - last years overall winner with 60 laps
This was a great totally well organised event last year and hopefully even bigger and better this year. My build up over the last couple of months has been long steady road and mtb rides, usually for about 10 hours+ and about 100 miles in length.

This has hopefully switched my body over to fat burning mode so that i can get through 24 hours of riding!
I'm using my 100mm travel XC bike this year which is light and nimble, but it may not be as plush as the 140mm Stumpjumper I used last year!

This week leading upto the event will be spent just doing short easy rides, tapering off as it gets closer to the weekend. I'll also be watching my diet, loads of protein to start the week (cheesecake) then carbo load from mid week (banana cake, fruit cake etc) ;-). On the day its hard to plan your food, last year I just couldn't take any more energy products from about the halfway stage as they made me feel sick! The best thing I had was rice pudding, bananas are also good, and I may try some other types of fresh fruit this year.

The main thing is to make sure you drink plenty, I'll probably just use bottles as they are only short laps taking on about 500ml per hour, sometimes carb drink, sometimes just water.

Riding wise you just need to take it nice and steady right from the start (though I did do a flying lap last year, just to get fastest lap!), small ring all the climbs and don't try to chase anyone!

I have a few more secrets up my sleeve, but these I won't share ;-). See you all there Saturday and have a great ride :-)

Séamus Shea - last year finished 6th overall and completed 31 laps
In no particular order –
1) Don't overdo in the early stages – there was a great rush to 'race' at the start, but in hindsight I wish I had not pushed so hard so soon. By 4pm I crashed on a stupid manoeuvre, which I put down to mild exhaustion and slight tunnel vision, I then lost an hour recovering and rehydrating after that – You have 24 hours to complete – it's 'a marathon not a sprint'
2) Midgies midgies midgies.....Arrggghhhhhhh!
3) It gets cold at night, also the body shuts down a bit, so I brought lots of layers etc. consider your normal night riding equipment – don't forget lamps, hi viz etc. Also bring a few changes of bike clothing – we were lucky with weather last year, but be prepared.
4) Don't have a big meal in the middle (i.e. sausages, beans and Hobgoblin!!) Floored me for ages...
5) Don't sleep too long – short naps and keep going – I slept for a good 3 hours and took ages to warm up and get going again.
6) I reckon with my lack of preparation, lack of planning and discipline I only managed 31 laps – had I been better organised I could have maybe done 40! That's my target this year.
7) Bring yourself a few hidden treats – they will be most welcome at 2AM and its also something to look forward to.
8) iPod was good company, but so was the noise of the night – I actually ditched the music for the night and following morning riding as the natural choruses and noises of the woods etc were most provocative and inspiring.
9) Others will be faster, others will lap you, but all that did not matter upon successfully finishing! The feeling was great!
10) If feeling a bit tired and low – just stop for a quick cuppa and some cake – there will always be someone else to natter with, share a few tales of the trails, swap tactics and then get back out there!!!

All riders should have now received a confirmation E-mail containing a sponsor form, course map and rider briefing notes which everyone is asked to read prior to the event. If you are listed below as being a confirmed rider but have not received the E-mail please E-mail Gary to have it re-sent.

08/06/2011

Despite entries officially closing over 4 weeks ago, we were asked to squeeze another team of 4 in by our timing equipment provider, Graham Hughes of Manx Timing Solutions and we could hardly say no so we now have an entry field of over 75 riders which for only our second year of the event is fantastic and we would like to thank everyone for their support with the event.

With a liitle over a month to go, now is the perfect time to start thinking about the event in terms of how you will get through the 24 hours. Following are a couple of links to articles written by David Arthur of Bike Magic where he talks to some of the top racers for some expert advice.

In Part 1 he talks to Josh Ibbett, Ant White, Mike Cotty and Rob Dean while in Part 2 he talks to Matt Page, Ian Leitch and Rich Rothwell. Both these articles make for good reading and could very well offer up some very sound advice for getting you over the finish line still smiling.

We have some very exciting news;

MICROGAMING SPONSORS THE ISLAND'S ONLY 24 HOUR MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE,
THE LONGEST DAY, LONGEST RIDE

DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN – Microgaming (www.microgaming.com), the world's largest provider of online gaming software, is pleased to announce that they will be sponsoring the Longest Day, Longest Ride event on Saturday 18th to Sunday 19th June 2011.

The Microgaming sponsored event will take place at South Barrule MTB Trails, and is a 24 hour endurance mountain bike challenge. Individuals and teams of all abilities are welcome to enter. The aim of the event is to ride for as long as possible, clocking up the most number of laps on the course in a 24 hour period staring at 12 noon on Saturday 18th June and finishing at 12 noon Sunday 19th June.

Roger Raatgever, CEO Microgaming commented "We are very excited to be involved in the Longest Day, Longest Ride event. We are huge sport fanatics at Microgaming and whenever we hear the word challenge, it certainly gets our attention! We can't wait to take part in the Island's only 24 hour mountain bike challenge, especially being associated with such a well respected club such as Loaghtan Loaded, who will also be donating all profits to an Isle of Man charity."

Organisers Loaghtan Loaded MTB Club have made this event 100% non-profit making, and will be donating proceeds to their 2011 elected charity, the Isle of Man branch of Muscular Dystrophy.

Gary Cooper, Loaghtan Loaded commented: "This is the second year we have organised the Longest Day, Longest ride event and are so pleased to have the backing of an organisation like Microgaming.

Entry fees are £35 for individuals, £67.50 for a team of two, £99.00 for a team of three, and £120.00 for a team of four. Riders must raise a minimum amount of sponsorship equivalent to the entry fee.

We have our second team entered, this time a team of 6 riders, four females and two males.

Last years overall winner has registered for his chance to retain his title but will he clock up as many laps as last year?

04/02/2011

It looks like the team event will be hottly contendered as we have had an enquiry in for a team of 6 riders. Last years overall solo winner, Julain Corlett, has yet to register for his chance to retain his title after last years convincing win with a staggering 60 laps!

03/02/2011
We have just had our first team entry and it is not last years team winners, 'Team Hot Fuzz'.

We have some rather disappointing news; in September of last year we announced that after initial discussions with Ryan Hawson from Ay-Up Lights he said that they would gladly come on board as one of the main event sponsors. Unfortunately we have to announce that we have been told Ryan no longer works for Ay-Up Lights and as such their offer of sponsoship has been withdrawn. Whilst this is sad news we are confident the event will not suffer and plans are progressing well for this years event and entries continue to come in. The organisers are also in discussions with another company with the view to a possible sponsorship deal.

15/01/2011
Just a reminder that entries are limited this year and are filling up. If you are intending on riding in the event we would recommend registering your entry sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

The first day of a new year saw a hardy bunch of individuals brave the cold weather to partake in the traditional New Years Day Dip. A few of the organisers were also out to brave the cold seas around the island and in particular at Laxey beach where the dip was more commonly referred to as the 'Deemsters Dip' as the late Deemster Mike Kerruish was a regular dipper and was also an active supporter of Muscular Dystrophy. Two Loaghtan Loaded riders Gadge and Dave and a junior Loaghtan, Dave's youngest son, were at Laxey for the dip.

31/12/2010
The organisers would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Here's hoping that 2011 is a healthy one. Don't forget that you can show your support for the chosen charity by joining some of the organisers down at the 'Deemster's Dip' on Laxey shore at 12 noon on New Years Day.

24/12/2010
The organisers would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hope santa brings you all what you desire. Don't forget that entries for the event are strictly limited s obe sure to get your entry in fast to avoid disappointment.

To help show our support for our chosen charity,Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, we would like to invite Loaghtan Loaded riders, event riders, friends and family to join us in the New Years Day Dip at Laxey starting at Midday. It would be nice to see riders down joining in; this year the dip has been re-named 'Deemster's Dip' in memory of the late Deemster Mike Kerruish who was an active supporter of Muscular Dystrophy. If you would like to join us at the dip please contact Gadge on 453016.

For those riders already signed up for the event and for all prospective riders you can now download a copy of the sponsor form HERE.

A little more info on the chosen charity. There are approximately 75 families on the Isle of Man affected by muscle disease and 70,000 throughout the UK. The common factor with all forms of muscle disease is the progressive wasting of muscles leading to disability and in many cases greatly reduced life expectancy.
The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign:
*fund world-class research to improve treatments and find cures
*offer practical and emotional support to families
*award grants towards the cost of specialist equipment, such as powered wheelchairs

09/11/2010
To confirm and clarify the limitation on entries we are limiting it to the following; 40 Solo places and 10 Team places. This will mean we have limited the number of riders on the course to 50 as we feel that more than 50 riders on the course at one time overnight could cause a problem with marshalling (etc) so be sure to get your entries in early.

06/11/2010
We have now limited the number of entries to the event. If you want to be guaranteed a place we urge you to get your entries in as once we have reached our limit we will not be able to accept any further entries, sorry!

24/10/2010
After several E-mail exchanges we are happy to confirm that Monster Energy will once again be supporting the event for 2011.

22/10/2010
We can now confirm the chosen charity for the 2011 event is Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. This charity was chosen as it falls very close to our hearts as one of our riders sons suffers with this disease and we would like to show our support to him and his family by raising money.

04/10/2010
The event Rules & Regulations have been published along with an ever growing list of Thank Yous.

02/10/2010

At the registration for the annual MMBC End 2 End Challenge Gadge and Bazzar got speaking to Ryan from Ay-Up Lights and mentioned about the 24hr endurance ride and asked the question 'Would they be interested in coming on board as one of the event sponsors?' We are extremely proud to announce that they said yes and will be one of the main 2011 event sponsors.

08/07/2010
Loaghtan Loaded MTB Club are now a fully affiliated club to the BCF so we are covered for event insurance as well as any trail maintenance days we hold in preparation of the 2011 event.

07/07/2010

After the disappointment experienced with obtaining first aid cover for the pilot event we decided to ensure we were fully covered for the 2011 event and are happy to announce that the Red Cross will be the official first aid cover. We would also once again like to thank Rachel for stepping in at the eleventh hour and covering our first aid, without which we could not have held the event.

01/07/2010
The date is set for the 2011 event. It will be held over the weekend of the 18th and 19th June 2011.
