Charity Donations

Welcome to our charity donations page where you can find out more information about the chosen charities of the 2012 Longest Day, Longest Ride 24hr MTB Endurance event.

As organisers we feel it only right that we put back in to the community by way of raising money for local charities. In the two years previous to 2012, Loaghtan Loaded MTB along with the riders and supporters of the Longest Day, Longest Ride have raised nearly £10,000.00 for local charities. For us the event has 3 main principles;

1) Raise as much money for charity as possible

2) Have fun

3) Organise a successful event

Each year the organisers sit down after selecting 1 or 2 charities each and from all those selected we go through each and then shortlist one or two which we then take a vote on. When choosing which charities the event looks to support we primarily look for those close to heart and those which offer support to the less able bodied. If you have a particular charity you wish to be considered for a future event please drop an E-mail to the organisers and we will add it to the list for consideration. Alternatively if you prefer to raise money for your own chosen charity you can do that, all we ask is that you make a donation equal to that of your entry fee to the events chosen charity. The official sponsorship form can be downloaded and printed HERE.

Some people have asked whether the chosen charities for this year are registered with JustGiving or VirginMoneyGiving; we have checked with the charities are they are unfortunately not registered so we have setup the above PayPal Donate Button to enable you to make a donation which we will forward on to the chairties.

A little bit about the chosen charities;

Autism In Mann Registered Charity No: 607
Autism in Mann was established in 1991 by two parents with families affected by autism, who wanted to reach out and help other affected people, parents and carers. The charity has been involved in the local community ever since.

Autism is a type of developmental disability and is lifelong. There are different types, but all people show difficulty with social interaction, communication and imagination.

People with autism are said to be on “the autistic spectrum”. The word 'spectrum' is used because, while all people with autism share the three common areas of difficulty, each person will be affected in very different and unique ways.

Autistic Spectrum Disorder can prove isolating not just for the person with it, but also for their parents/carers and siblings.

Our aims
Our continued aim is to support people and families dealing with autism and to promote further understanding of autism in the community.

The work we do
* Collaborative working together with other charities and organisations to provide training opportunities for members and professionals.
* We have independently brought expert speakers over for training days and seminars.
* Produce a quarterly newsletter and library in collaboration with Autism Initiatives.
* Autism in Mann is a member charity of Project 21 which has worked to build Centre 21 for people with learning difficulties.
* Social events are held for parents and families, such as coffee mornings, film nights, swimming and fun sessions giving opportunities for young people with autism to have fun and socialise.
* Monthly meetings are held, giving and sharing of information and providing parent to parent support.
* We are constantly looking at ways to help and expand opportunities for people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

How are we financed?
We are a parent led organisation run by families affected by autism for families affected by autism and are completely self funded. Autism in Mann receives a small annual subscription from members.

How you can help
People with autism often act in what we may think an inappropriate manner, but they frequently do not appear different in any other way. Please show understanding and think differently about people with autism and their families.
We aim to give support in as many ways as we can. If you would like to help us with fundraising, sponsorship or with a donation we would love to hear from you.

Care is offered in a flexible and accommodating manner and in doing so, Rebecca House provides opportunities for families to have a rest and enjoy quality time with other family members and siblings. The team at Rebecca House is currently made up of five Registered Nurses and six Nursery Nurses.

Rebecca House has a warm and friendly atmosphere where children are able to relax and have fun. The staff enjoys the reward of being able to make a difference to the children’s lives and seeing a child regain their confidence and in some cases their health. Rebecca House currently provides care seven days a week between the hours of 8am and 8pm and overnight care five nights per week.

Rebecca House has a wide variety of specialist in-patient facilities including four fully furnished en-suite bedrooms, a separate adapted bathroom and wet room, a children’s multi-function room, a fully-fitted kitchen and the Dream Room offering a full multi-sensory experience.
